Exegesis on the Soul is a didactic treatise summarizing a history of humanity's relationship with God. The unnamed author formulates this story through a metaphorical woman who represents the believer's soul. The style is equal parts scholarly and explicit, employing a juxtaposition of sexual imagery interleaved with references to Hellenistic poetry and Christian scripture.
