The Teachings of Silvanus

The Teachings of Silvanus is a wisdom treatise presented as a lesson from Silvanus, a preacher mentioned alongside Paul in 2 Corinthians 1:19 and elsewhere in the New Testament. The instruction is markedly Stoic, employing military metaphors about defending the mind and overcoming one's animalistic impulses. Much like Proverbs from the same genre, Silvanus emphasizes personal accountability, the disciplined pursuit of wisdom, and vigilance against those who would lead one astray. Alongside Sextus and Thomas, Silvanus reflects the Nag Hammadi scribes' pursuit of practical wisdom.
