The Sentences of Sextus was a popular collection of maxims read throughout the early Christian world. The text opines about a number of topics, including honesty, wisdom, service, and righteous living. Though originally Pagan, Christians adapted the text for pedagogical use in several languages. This page presents the Coptic translation found at Nag Hammadi, with Henry Chadwick's standard interlingual verse numbering.
Other Gospels proudly presents as part of our Nag Hammadi Initiative. The Coptic text was translated by Samuel Zinner and edited by Mark Mattison via our financial support.
