The Letter of Peter to Philip is an apocalyptic text narrated from Peter’s perspective as he summons the apostles to spread the gospel. The story begins with a letter inviting Philip to join the fray, after which the apostles gather on the Mount of Olives near Jerusalem. After praying for divine insight and protection, Jesus appears, delivering a sermon on the nature of evil and how to defeat the archons. Prepared for spiritual warfare, the apostles set out in spite of certain persecution, healing the sick and performing miracles. The Letter of Peter to Philip reflects the tumultuous era of Gnostic persecution in antiquity.
