The Book of Jasher, aka The Book of the Upright, is a lost Hebrew scripture mentioned in Joshua 10:13, 2 Samuel 1:18, and perhaps 1 Kings 8. Although the original has been lost to history, the past few centuries have produced several competing texts claiming to be this mysterious account. The most famous of these is the medieval Sefer ha-Yashar, a Hebrew midrash later mistaken by some readers for the original book. Here we reproduce the latter in its 19th-century English form, beloved by its niche audience of Mormon restorationists, Hebrew Roots teachers, New Age seekers, and Christian mystics.
