GNOSIS BOT | PRIVACY POLICY
Last Updated: November 24, 2025.
This Privacy Policy describes how Other Gospels LLC (“Other Gospels,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information in connection with the GnosisBot Discord bot (the “Service” or “GnosisBot”).
By adding or using GnosisBot on Discord, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, you should not use GnosisBot and should remove it from your server(s).
This Privacy Policy applies only to GnosisBot and any related interfaces we operate for it (for example, configuration dashboards or documentation pages we host, if any). It does not apply to Discord itself or to any other third-party services. Those services are governed by their own privacy policies.
1. Quick Summary
GnosisBot processes message content from Discord in order to respond to commands and quote texts.
We do not intentionally store full user message content after processing it to generate a response, other than temporary copies kept in memory or very short-lived caches required to operate the Service.
We do store certain information such as:
- Server and bot configuration settings;
- Discord IDs (e.g., server, channel, and user IDs);
- Usage metrics and aggregated statistics;
- Technical logs and diagnostic data.
We use this information to operate, secure, and improve GnosisBot, and to comply with applicable laws.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information Provided via Discord
Through the Discord API, we may receive and process:
- Message content and commands (ephemeral processing). When you or someone in your server interacts with GnosisBot, we receive the content of the message or command so the bot can understand what to do (e.g., which scripture to quote).
- We process this message content in memory in order to generate a response.
- We do not intentionally store full message content after responding, except in temporary caches or short-lived logs necessary for the Service to function.
- We do not maintain a searchable archive of user messages.
- Discord identifiers. We may receive and store:
- Server (guild) IDs;
- Channel IDs;
- User IDs and/or role IDs;
- Message IDs associated with specific bot events (e.g., to handle reactions or edits).
These identifiers may be personal data because they can be linked to particular Discord accounts.
- Server configuration and settings. For servers that install GnosisBot, we may store configuration data such as:
- Which features or commands are enabled or disabled;
- Prefixes or command invocation settings;
- Which channels the bot is allowed to respond in;
- Locale, translation, or scripture-source preferences;
- Admin or owner choices about logging or moderation-related behavior.
- User configuration and settings. For users that interact with GnosisBot, we may store configuration data such as:
- Prefixes or command invocation settings;
- Locale, translation, or scripture-source preferences;
- Message formatting settings.
2.2 Usage Metrics and Analytics
We may collect and store:
- Counts of how often commands are used and which commands are popular;
- Counts of how often books are quoted and which passages are popular;
- Aggregated statistics by server (e.g., number of requests per day);
- Basic error and performance information (e.g., failed requests, latency, resource usage).
We design these metrics to be aggregated or de-identified wherever reasonable (for example, tracking counts rather than raw message content).
2.3 Technical and Log Data
Like most online services, we may also collect technical information automatically, such as:
- Timestamps of requests and responses;
- Internal system identifiers;
- Diagnostic error logs;
- Information from our hosting provider(s) or infrastructure (which may include IP addresses of systems interacting with our services, user agent strings, and similar metadata).
We do not receive your personal IP address directly from Discord when you send a message in Discord; however, our servers may process technical network information as part of operating the Service and any related websites.
2.4 Information You Send Directly to Us
If you contact us by email or through other channels (for example, for support or legal requests), we may collect:
- Your email address and any other contact details you provide;
- The content of your request and our correspondence.
3. How We Use Information
We use the information described above for the following purposes:
- To operate and provide GnosisBot. Including reading commands, finding and sending scripture quotations, handling configuration, and maintaining compatibility with Discord.
- To maintain and improve the Service. Including debugging issues, optimizing performance, and developing new or improved features based on aggregate usage patterns.
- To secure and protect the Service. Including monitoring for abuse, spam, or suspicious activity; enforcing rate limits; and protecting against attacks or misuse.
- To communicate with you. Including responding to support requests and sending important notices related to the Service (for example, material changes to this Policy).
- To comply with legal obligations. Including responding to lawful requests from authorities, resolving disputes, and enforcing our Terms of Service.
We do not use full user message content for general marketing or sales purposes, and we do not sell personal information as that term is commonly understood.
4. Our Approach to Message Content
Because this is central to how the bot feels to users:
- GnosisBot must see message content in order to know which passage to return, but
- We do not intentionally persist full message content beyond the time needed to generate and send a response, except:
- Temporary in-memory or very short-lived caching for performance; and
- Limited and incidental inclusion in technical logs (for example, if an error trace includes a small snippet of a message).
We take reasonable steps to minimize collection of message content in logs, and to limit retention of any such logs to what is necessary for security and debugging.
GnosisBot is not designed or intended to be a message archive, storage solution, or long-term record of user communications.
5. Legal Bases for Processing (EEA/UK Users)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), the United Kingdom, or a jurisdiction with similar data protection laws, our legal bases for processing your personal data typically include:
- Legitimate interests. To operate, secure, and improve GnosisBot; to analyze usage patterns; and to protect against abuse. We balance these interests against your rights and expectations.
- Contract. To the extent we process data as necessary to provide the Service under our Terms of Service.
- Legal obligations. Where we must retain or disclose certain information to comply with applicable law.
In some cases, your explicit consent may also apply (for example, if you choose to share certain information directly with us outside Discord).
6. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information.
We may share information as follows:
- Service providers and vendors. We may share information with third-party companies that help us provide and support GnosisBot (e.g., hosting providers, monitoring and logging services, analytics providers). These providers are contractually obligated to process information only on our behalf and for our instructions.
- Discord and other platforms. GnosisBot operates on top of Discord. Discord processes your data under its own terms and privacy policy. We may also share certain bot-related information back to Discord as required for proper operation.
- Legal and safety reasons. We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that doing so is necessary to:
- Comply with a law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request;
- Enforce our Terms of Service or protect the security or integrity of the Service;
- Protect the rights, property, or safety of Other Gospels, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers. If we are involved in a merger, acquisition, reorganization, sale of assets, or similar transaction, information may be disclosed or transferred as part of that deal, subject to appropriate confidentiality protections.
We may also share aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably be used to identify you, for example, statistics about total command usage across all servers.
7. Data Retention
We retain different categories of data for different periods, depending on the purpose:
- Message content: We do not intentionally retain full message content after it has been processed to generate a response, other than temporary in-memory processing and short-lived caches or logs necessary for security and debugging.
- Configuration data (e.g., server settings): Retained for as long as the bot remains installed or until a server owner/admin resets or removes it, plus a reasonable period afterward for backup and audit purposes.
- Metrics and log data: Retained for as long as needed to operate, secure, and improve GnosisBot and to meet legal or regulatory requirements. Typical retention periods depend on the category and jurisdiction.
We may anonymize or aggregate data so that it can no longer be associated with an identifiable individual. We may retain such anonymized data indefinitely.
8. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information we process in connection with GnosisBot, including access controls and security practices provided by our hosting and infrastructure providers.
However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. The security of data in Discord itself is governed by Discord’s systems and policies.
9. Your Rights and Choices
Your specific rights depend on your jurisdiction, but generally may include:
- Access and correction. You may have the right to request a copy of personal data we hold about you and to ask that inaccurate data be corrected.
- Deletion. You may have the right to request deletion of personal data we hold about you, subject to legal and operational exceptions (for example, where we must retain certain data for legal compliance or security).
- Restriction and objection. You may have rights to restrict or object to certain processing, particularly where we rely on legitimate interests.
- Data portability. In some jurisdictions, you may have the right to request that certain data be provided to you in a portable format.
Because GnosisBot’s stored data is heavily server- and ID‑based, we may need your Discord user ID, server ID, and/or confirmation via Discord to locate data associated with you.
To exercise any of these rights, you can contact us using the details in Section 12 (Contact Us). We may need to verify your identity and jurisdiction before responding.
9.1 Region-Specific Information
- EEA/UK: If you are in the EEA or United Kingdom, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority if you believe our processing violates applicable law.
- California (CCPA/CPRA): If you are a California resident, you may have rights to request information about how we collect, use, and disclose “personal information,” to request deletion of personal information, and to not be discriminated against for exercising your rights.
We do not sell personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising in the sense defined by California law.
10. Children’s Privacy
GnosisBot is not directed to children under 13 years of age, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
If we learn that we have inadvertently collected personal information from a child under 13 (or under a higher age threshold where required by local law) without appropriate consent, we will take reasonable steps to delete that information.
If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at the address in Section 13.
11. International Data Transfers
We are based in the United States and may process information in that country and in other countries where our service providers operate.
These countries may have data protection laws that are different from those in your jurisdiction and may not be deemed to provide an equivalent level of protection. Where required by law, we take steps to implement appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) to protect your personal data in cross-border transfers.
12. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page and may provide additional notice where required by law (for example, via a post in our documentation or a message in Discord).
Your continued use of GnosisBot after any changes to this Privacy Policy become effective means you accept the updated Policy.
