2 Melchizedek is an esoteric apocalyptic account that venerates a myriad of spiritual leaders and aeonic powers. Chief among them is Melchizedek, the priestly king said to anoint Abraham in Genesis 14:18-20. Going a step further than 1 Melchizedek, this narrative equates him with Jesus, suggesting the two are essentially incarnations of the same divine being. Because the manuscripts are quite damaged and frequently change speakers, much of the underlying message remains elusive. Nevertheless, 2 Melchizedek offers a rare glimpse into the intersection of Christian Gnosticism and Jewish apocalyptic thought.
