2nd Apocalypse of James

The Second Apocalypse of James recounts the martyrdom of Jesus' brother as he defies the Demiurge and his archons. Facing certain death, James boldly preaches to a furious Jerusalem crowd, who ultimately stone him beneath the temple's pinnacle — the same spot Jesus is tempted by the Devil in Matthew 4:5-6. In his final moments, James prays for forgiveness, strength, and salvation. This apocalypse is notable for its veneration of James the Just, whose courage inspired persecuted Gnostics in antiquity. At one point, Jesus even kisses James, assuring him of the power his example will set.
