The Coptic Revelation of Peter

The Coptic Revelation of Peter is a passion narrative told from Peter's perspective, beginning on the night of Jesus's arrest. As in the New Testament, Peter denies Jesus three times. Nevertheless, the Savior encourages Peter to push forward in the face of violence, revealing to him the hidden purpose of the crucifixion. At its climax, the Savior shows Peter a bizarre sight: the man Jesus suffering on the cross while Christ's spirit hovers above. Through sharp warnings against false teachers and institutional hierarchy, the Savior explains the vision's meaning and renews Peter's resolve.
